Mike Hopper

Michael Hopper. It is with great sorrow that we confirm the death, after battling illness for some time, of long time Stockport County and Help the Hatters stalwart Michael Hopper. Mike supported County for many years and, for a great number of those, played an active and leading role in Help the Hatters. Whether it was playing a part in the reconstruction of Manor Farm helping to convert what was a ramshackle farm house into a cracking training facility, turning up at 5 or 6 am to sort matters at numerous Car Boot Sales, or tending to a myriad of other tasks in support of the Club, Mike was always ready to get stuck in.  Up at 6am for the Car Boot ! Mike was a skilled businessman, and used his skills in that field to greatly enhance the work of Help the Hatters and the Club as Treasurer - he will be sorely missed! All at Help the Hatters send their condolences to Michael’s wife Joyce, Mark his Son, Michelle his Daughter and all Mike

Bradford Park Avenue 2 Stockport County 3 ( Vanarama National League- North) 30 March 2018

County maintained their play offs momentum with a vital 3-2 away win over Bradford Park Avenue today. The large County contingent in the 1044 crowd, were ecstatic at the finish after Jimmy Ball had volleyed the blues home with a late /late purler. But……. after dominating the game in the first half,   and much of the second, and seemingly cruising to victory via a fantastic brace from Jason Oswell, they rather let things slip, conceding two goals against a Bradford side that they had made to   look distinctly ordinary and a tad peevish before a clutch of second half substitutions revived them. By way of contrast, County did rather miss Matty Warburton’s soothing presence ,after he was subbed at 2-0, but thankfully James Gannon’s boys showed their metal when they needed to the most, sending 90% of the crowd home happy.    Warburton and company... Again….this is valuable evidence of how the team is gelling at the right time under Jim’s guiding hand.

The EON Visual Media Stadium, as you might be tempted to name this venue, is tucked away in the back streets of Ferriby , adjacent to a railway line , and within sight of the Humber Bridge. There was no segregation on the occasion of our last visit to this venue in   season 2015/16, thus both sets of fans could happily abuse the officials, and occasionally the opposition, in plain ear shot of each other, without there being the slightest hint of inter club rancour. The stewarding was low key to none existent, which is just about how it should be, althoug
