Gloucester City Preview

GLOUCESTER'S FORM

Our visitors had a mid-week game as it took two attempts for them to get past Paulton Rovers of the Southern League Premier Division in the FA Cup. The Cup games gave Gloucester a chance to end a run of three consecutive League defeats.

Gloucester have had a bit of a clear out during the last few weeks. First up came the departure of three players announced on 19 September - including ever present goalkeeper Mike Green. His outfield namesake is still at the club but didn't play on Tuesday. Then Scott Wilson went out on loan with a view to a permanent move.  The departures continued during the week when former County -loanee Elliot Chamerlain left for Corby Town. The winger had the perennial problem for a part time footballer of changes in his full time job making  travel from his home in Leicestershire to Gloucester difficult.

To fill some of the gaps they brought in Joe Parker on loan from Newport County and their new goalkeeper is Paul White. White is another loan man heading to Whaddon Road from Forest Green Rovers. Saturday will be the first time the former Republic of Ireland Schools International has tried to keep the County attack at bay.

Gloucester have one main weapon in their goal scoring armoury as Charlie Griffin is the only player with more than one goal to his credit in the Conference North to date this season. Charlie has registered 6 times and also got the late equaliser that earned City a replay last weekend. Griffin's scoring record against County is 2 goals in a game for Stevenage back in our Football League days. All the other goals have been evenly spread although the Cup replay gave Matt Groves a chance to score his second of the season - George Miller getting the other goal

THE COUNTY SIDE

It almost seems a case of getting the results despite the injury crisis for County. The return of Richie Baker was a welcome sight on Saturday - given the strong start he has made to his County career. But this time it was the defence that had to be shuffled. It's very much anybody's guess what the line-up and formation will be as much will depend on who has recovered and who has not. There is also the long trip on Tuesday to consider especially if work commitments end up influencing Lord's County's selection then. However, the team spirit seems to be good and the players coming in for the first choice men have put in solid performances.

PREVIOUS VISITS

Gloucester are another opponent who have only been to EP once before.

MATCH PROSPECTS

Having dropped a place mid-week due to Boston United's draw at Worcester, another win would be very useful - especially with a long trip on Tuesday. Gloucester have been at the bottom end of the table all season and County fans will be disappointed if at the final whistle the Hatters are not celebrating another win.
