County 2 Solihull Moors 2 ; Conference North

I am tempted to take refuge in that old bromide “ are well.....you cannot win them all” after County came away from Edgeley Park today sharing the points with Solihull Moors after a 2-2 draw . With just 4 minutes left though they were 2-1 up and looking very much like they would win the game! It mattered not that Moors had thoroughly dominated much of the game, and gone in 1-0 up after the first 45 minutes, after all County had shuffled their pack ( Battersby for Moke) for the re-start and powered into the lead thanks to 2 fine but contrasting goals from captain Phil Jevons and new boy Mark Battersby. But immense credit goes to the visitors whose never say die spirit and almost constant late pressure eventually paid off when a headed goal from Mike Taylor levelled it with the game almost done! It was disappointing, but hard to deny that Moors deserved at least a share of the spoils, and there was the considerable bonus of Battersby`s performance that augured well for the

Telford - the Promised Land?

You’ll recall that m y personal holy trinity is proper football (not the sort played on TV by millionaires), proper beer (not pasteurised keg rubbish) & proper exploring (planned well in advance). Well, as County aren’t allowed to play York or Shrewsbury any more, Telford is now the Promised Land.   Not only is there the opportunity for a long lunch in Shrewsbury on the way, & to crash down in a pub near Telford’s ground that serves 7 real ales, there is also Oakengates a 5 minute train ride away, which boasts 3 Good Beer Guide pubs near the station, serving about 20 real ales between them. So, as I’m sure you can appreciate, the trip to Telford is my most eagerly anticipated trip of the season & involves a 2 night stop-over. I’m so excited Thursday night that I can’t sleep & end up in Stockport way too early for my train. But all is not lost - breakfast at the Plaza Cafe.                                                          MIAH starts his d

AFC Telford 2 County 0 ; Conference North

Pic by A Birchenough. County went down to a 2-0 defeat against high flying AFC Telford at the Bucks Head Stadium today. The blues fought hard, but the home side had far too much savvy for them, and despite periods of County pressure, looked comfortable enough in the end. The defence, with Duxbury again playing a blinder, defended doggedly, and well at times, but they needed the forwards to put some concerted pressure on our hosts, but despite 45 minutes from new man Battersby ,and a late run out for Liam Dickinson, they never really tested Bucks keeper Ryan Young , thus with ex Southport tyro Andy Owens running the Telford show, all the points went to the midland side. Away End at k.o time by A Birchenough Away End circa 2.45 by I Brown                    A crash on the M6 resulted in the kick off being put back to 3.10, but   quick action by the wily Lou, saw a neat detour take the         Flyer clear of any carnage,   and as a result there was plenty of time
