Graham Axon

                               Graham Axon R.I.P. (1945 - 2014) Sadly missed
Graham ,passed away peacefully on the 4th of January following a prolonged illness.
His funeral service on January 15th was absolutely bulging at the seams with standing room only such was his popularity and humour.
Graham was a long time Stockport County supporter, who like myself was at the promotion game with Chesterfield in 96/97 but, also like me, arrived late and missed the vital goal! Despite County`s spiral of decline of recent years, Graham remained one of the Blue and White Army.
He was also a member of Stockport Harriers and Athletic Club, and will be mainly remembered for his activities, in the 80’s and 90’s, and also for the particular social slant which he brought to the proceedings.
Maybe he was one of the old guard, but he certainly enlivened the social scene here in Stockport and for many years on the annual Stockport Harriers European athletic tours every October.
He enjoyed "playing the fool" and was regarded as the "club card" for many years!
His best 10 kms time was a little over 36 minutes in the Manchester 10K race and also in the Oldham race from Boundary park, so he could `shift’ a bit.
Graham , was cared for by St Anne`s Hospice for much of the latter part of his life and with this in mind I have set up a Just Giving page in Graham`s memory( link below). If you feel you can make a donation ,however small, in Graham`s memory it will help sustain St Anne`s in their magnificent work.

In addition a General knowledge quiz written by Graham in 2013 and never used yet, will be held at Railway Hotel, Portwood on Sunday 16th March 2014. Teams (of up to) 4 persons at £1 each (cash prizes from proceeds etc).
